VE DEME: Life in an orphanage in Ghana
"Go Deme: Life in an orphanage in Ghana" is a documentary that portrays the lives of 73 children between 2 and 23 years old who live today in the Orphanage of Ve Deme, a village in the region of Volta, Ghana.
Run by a local family for two generations, it offers shelter, food, clothing, primary education and
leisure time to orphan children and kids from families with minimal resources.
During June/July 2019, I performed volunteer functions in the orphanage, living with minors and collaborating in the daily teaching of English and mathematics. Such experience has allowed me to live their reality "in situ" and capture it by photographing special moments of their day and daily lifestyle.
The collection includes portraits, photographs of infrastructures and
activities carried out by residents.
